| Batista - Professional Wrestler (WWE) |
David Michael Bautista, Jr. (born January 18, 1969 in Arlington, Virginia) is a half Greek/half Filipino Professional Wrestler most commonly known as “Batista” in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). His father, David Michael Bautista, is Filipino and his mother, Donna Raye Bautista, is Greek. But just like most Filipinos, he also was a child who cam from a family with humble beginnings working with odd jobs just to feed the family (and military service). But being from a poor family is something Batista never denied and was ashamed of. These experiences made him more determined to work and did pretty much developed the toughness he had with him all along. Bautista tried out at the WCW Power Plant but was told he would never make it in the wrestling business by Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker. He then went to the WWF who sent him to train with Afa Anoa’i’s school in the Wild Samoan Training Centre. His training paid of and he latter made his wrestling debut at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in 2000, where he joined forces with Synn. There he was known as “Leviathan“. He went undefeated until he was beaten by World Wrestling Federation (WWF)’s Kane, with help from Stone Cold Steve Austin Christmas Chaos (an OVW super card). But he later went on to win the OVW Heavyweight Championship from ‘The Machine’ Doug Basham. Months after, Bautista left OVW and was promoted to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and the rest was history. WWE Highlights: * World Wrestling Entertainment o World Heavyweight Championship (4 times) o World Tag Team Championship (3 times) - with Ric Flair (2) and John Cena o WWE Tag Team Championship (1 time) - with Rey Mysterio o Royal Rumble (2005) * Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards o Feud of the Year (2005) vs. Triple H o Wrestler of the Year (2005) o Most Improved Feud of the Year (2005) o Most Powerful Wrestler of the Year (2005) o Feud of the Year (2007) vs. The Undertaker batista - Filipino WWE wrestler In 2006, during a public relations program, Batista (along with other WWE superstars) visited the Philippines and had a taste of the welcome he deserves for being one proud Filipino. Batista has always been proud of his Filipino roots, and showing that Philippine Flag tattoo to a lot of Filipinos and the people around the world is just one of his ways of saying he is proud to be Pinoy. No wonder why a lot of Filipinos look up to him. He lived like a Filipino. He worked like a Filipino. He is one true Filipino. He is Batista. |
